ABOUT THE PTA
Sunrise Parent Teacher Association
Sunrise Elementary Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a 501 c (3) non-profit corporation which is State and Nationally affiliated. We are separate from, but work in close partnership with, the school. Our vision is to make every child's potential a reality. Our members are parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, and community members of Sunrise Elementary.​PTA is a powerful voice for children, a relevant resource for families, schools and communities, and a strong advocate for the well-being and education of every child. We encourage parent involvement and promote opportunities for positive outcomes for children.
Our Mission
To maintain standards of affiliation with State and National PTA.
​
To advocate for laws that promote the education, the physical and mental health, and the safety of children at Sunrise Elementary. To advocate for fiscal responsibility around public spending in education.
To promote collaboration and engagement between families, teachers and the community in the education and the welfare of children at Sunrise Elementary.
What we do
We provide supplemental funds to teachers and specialists for classroom, library, PE, music, and playground materials. We also provide emergency preparedness equipment to the school.

We fund and run art and science docent programs.
​
We coordinate volunteer-led social events to grow a sense of community, build lasting friendships and create fun memories.
​
We host community service programs and discussions to help our kids better understand each other, and those outside of their immediate circle.
We provide after school programs to enrich our children's learning experience at Sunrise.

Legislative Advocate

Communicates current legislative issues to members. Collects political input from Sunrise PTA members and represents them at the PTA Legislative Convention. Networks with other local PTA Legislative Advocates
Library Coordinator

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS! Recruits library volunteers by classroom at open house and curriculum night. Provides training for volunteers at the beginning of the year. Coordinates with the librarian to organize volunteer shifts, and distributes a calendar of shifts to volunteers on a monthly basis. Volunteers can work 1 time per week or less depending on how many people sign up to volunteer. They check in books, run reports, assist with crafts, check out books to students, and shelf books.
Math Olympiad
Boris Gonsalves (5th grade) OPEN (4th grade)
Coordinates teams in 5th grade for math competitions, and organizes volunteers to hold practices before or after school for several months leading up to the competitions.
Multicultural Night

Advertises event and recruits volunteers for cultural booths. Recruits and organizes volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, decorating and photo booth.
Nomination Committee

Researches and applies for grants. Coordinates with both the school distric as well as the classroom representatives.
Picture & Health Day Coordinator

Recruits and maintains a pool of volunteers to help during various labor-intensive programs like Picture Day, Health Check-ups, etc.
Playground Volunteer Coordinator

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS! Recruits parents and manages schedule for playground volunteers. These volunteers help out during recesses, keeping an eye on activities to ensure fair and safe play. Also coordinates training for recess volunteers with playground teachers.
Reflections
Yolanda Loo
Coordinates the promotion of the Reflections art contest to Sunrise students, gathers and collects entries and organizes their submission to the Northshore PTA Council. Organizes recognition and awards for all participants.
Safety Committee
Updesh Mahal, Robyn Nazar
Promotes safety initiatives at Sunrise. Facilitates the communication between the school and the community about safety and security. Provides accessibility to safety resources for the community.
